I’m one of the people who read Third Policeman thanks to Lost and I definitely say it changed my life (at least my reading life, which isn’t nothing!). It’s a book I’ll buy any time I come across it in a used bookstore and gift out to friends. So thank you Chad W Post, you did Not lie to me.
Thanks for this discussion of Flann O'Brien. I particularly liked the comparison of THE THIRD POLICEMAN with CRIME AND PUNISHMENT.
Just to be precise, I'm pretty sure the friend who tried to get THE THIRD POLICEMAN published in the US (mentioned around the 34:02 mark) was William Saroyan, who was a contemporary of O'Nolan's. Styron was at least ten years younger than Saroyan and O'Nolan.
